Pay No Attention To The Man Behind The Curtain

In that wonderful movie, that's filled with life lessons, "The Wizard Of Oz", Dorothy and her gang of three finally arrive at the throne room in the Emerald City, where they make a startling discovery.

Gathered together and cowering in the presence of "The Great and Powerful Oz" brave little Toto pulls back the curtain on a small booth, revealing an elderly man pulling levers, spinning wheels and talking into a microphone. Turning, he realizes he’s been found out and says, “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain! The Great Oz has spoken!” Dorothy and her entourage realize that there is no wizard – there never was!  It’s all been smoke and mirrors, an illusion.

The enemy of our souls, the dark lord, AKA Satan, is much like the wizard, operating in the background, pulling leavers, spinning wheels and talking into a microphone. Most believers have fallen for his tricks, I certainly have. We pay too much attention to the smoke and mirrors, letting our focus drift toward the illusion, losing sight of the goal, falling for the lies dropped into our minds and whispered in our ears.

God's Word reminds us that the devil is LIKE a roaring lion. Not actually a lion, rather like a lion. Our enemy is the man in the booth, manipulating, dealing in smoke and mirrors.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NIV

The Amplified Bible records that verse this way.
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

In the ancient story of Job, when God questioned Satan as to where he'd been, he answered..... Now there was a day when the sons (the angels) of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan (the adversary and accuser) also came among them.  And the Lord said to Satan, From where did you come? Then Satan answered the Lord, From going to and fro on the earth and from walking up and down on it. Job 1:6-7 Amplified Bible

And what was Satan doing?

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, 'Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. Revelation 2:10

As believers we wander around with a target on our back, not only do non-believers we know watch our every move, just waiting for us to stumble, the minions of the dark lord seek to do us harm, by whatever means. That's why the Bible tells us to put on our armour....

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Ephesians 6:13-17 NKJV

The real lion has conquered all...
