Spiritual DNA

DNA Double Helix model
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid), our genetic alphabet, pretty much determines who we are, what we look like, what "inherited" traits from our parents and grandparents will have dominance; it's in every one of the trillions of cells in our body. It's in every living thing, and there may be as much as a meter of DNA in single cell.

DNA is code that is divided up into sections. These sections are genes, which carry all the instructions for making up our body. There is a gene that tells the body to have brown red or blond hair and so on. Each gene is a code for a particular protein. Our bodies are made up of proteins. The genes dictate how we are made and what our bodies look like. It really is all in our genes, who were are and what we look like was determined long ago, when our ancestors first got together, that is why so many family physical traits run down through the generations. Paradoxically it is also what makes us unique, and while none of us are exactly alike, (even identical twins have slightly different fingerprints)  we all share the same spiritual DNA.

Where did our spiritual  DNA come from?
And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male

and female.  Genesis 1:27
MKJV

In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female. ... And Adam lived 130 years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image.  Genesis. 5: 1-3 NKJV

For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers. Romans 8:29 MKJV

Listen to me, you coast-lands! Pay attention, you people from far away! The LORD called me from the womb; while I was still in my mother's body, he pronounced my name. Isaiah 49:1 ISV

From Adam, down through countless generations to you and I, we have, along with our ancestor's natural DNA, inherited the same Spirit matter that God imbued the original humans with! The image of the Godhead residing within me is wondrous indeed.

Believers have long identified with the blood of Jesus as it covers and cleanses us, and we comprehend having righteousness by faith alone, rather than works. But can we plumb the tremendous implications of having Father's DNA?

No longer need we merely confess that we are the righteousness of Christ. With His DNA in us through His blood, we can be nothing else. The attributes of His DNA reside in us—whether dormant or active.

The fruit of the Spirit is not something we "will" by self-effort or following the law. God has already placed genes of love, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control within our spirit. They are waiting to be activated by the Holy Spirit.
Yet some attributes may never come forth without faith, revelation, timing, obedience or humility. Should we fail to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can easily miss out on the benefits of having supernatural DNA.

For me, it is one thing to believe that faith "is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews. 11:1). Yet added to that is the concept of having my Father's DNA. If DNA is the central measure of all natural life, its spiritual parallel adds a facet of identity and confidence in us that is incomparable.

I no longer hope I am a spiritual being with a spiritual nature that can glorify God. I no longer pray that one day I will finally become these things. By virtue of Christ, I already am!

Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16 N.I.V

True, you and I can choose to walk in the flesh and not be recognized by our real identities. Just as there are variances and mutations in DNA that bring forth destruction and disease, we, too, must walk in the Spirit to maintain the purity of our distinct spiritual heritage.

If  we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:25
Do you still struggle with your "worth" as a son or daughter of God? Or with your right to claim the victory and power He gave us? No longer do we need to worry about these things, you already have Father's spiritual DNA.

A new heart I will give you and a new spirit I will put within you . . . I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes.  Ezekiel 36:26-27
