Diamonds… the mere mention of the word fills our minds with images of wealth; a diamond is a mineral, a natural crystalline substance, the transparent form of pure carbon. Cut diamonds are beautiful, the peerless “king of gems” that glitter, dazzle, and symbolize purity and strength. They are the hardest known substance, formed in the very heart of our planet and forced towards the surface by fiery volcanoes, and it’s likely the oldest thing that you will ever see. They are, to many of us, the symbol of love… marriages that have stood the test of time (60 years) are marked with increasingly rare “Diamond Anniversaries”.
The advisements tell us that diamonds are forever, but God’s Word says otherwise. The palmist predicts the day when, not only diamonds, but the entire physical universe will wear out.
At the beginning You existed and laid the foundations of the earth; the heavens are the work of Your hands. They shall perish, but You shall remain and endure; yes, all of them shall wear out and become old like a garment. Like clothing You shall change them, and they shall be changed and pass away. But You remain the same, and Your years shall have no end. Psalm 102:25-27 Amplified Bible
Diamonds are sometimes casually referred to as “rocks” as in “look at that rock she’s got on her finger” but there is only one rock that will outlast the universe, and that’s the “living rock” who is our Lord….“He is the Rock; His work is perfect. For all His ways are just, a God of faithfulness, and without evil; just and upright is He.” Deuteronomy 3:24 MKJV
In 1940 Dr. John Williamson, a Canadian geologist accidentally found one of the most famous diamonds in the world. While digging his car out of a patch of mud on a lonely rural road in Tanzania he discovered a large pink stone. As a geologist, naturally curious about rock formations, he picked it up and wiped away the mud. The more mud he removed, the more excited he became, and could hardly believe what he saw. When the stone was finally clean, Dr. Williamson was very excited; he had discovered a diamond… and not just any diamond. This was the first significant diamond find outside of South Africa, which up till this time had a virtual monopoly on marketable diamonds.
Eventually Williamson presented this remarkable stone to Princess Elizabeth of Great Britain, to mark the occasion of her accession to the throne as Queen Elizabeth the Second in 1953. Even this beautiful stone will one day cease to exist, when the universe melts.
While you wait and earnestly long for (expect and hasten) the coming of the day of God by reason of which the flaming heavens will be dissolved, and the [material] elements [of the universe] will flare and melt with fire? 2 Peter 3:12 Amplified Bible
Jesus told us just where (and what) the real treasure is… “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it, he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Matthew 13:44
Are you looking for that treasure, or are you still putting your trust in stones, as rare and beautiful as they are, that will one day simply vanish in a “big whimper” as the universe dissolves?
From God's Word:
Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore, hear the Word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked one shall die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand.
Ezekiel 3:17-18 MKJV

Bible factoid-
Diamond: (1.) A precious gem (Hebrew. yahalom', in allusion to its hardness), otherwise unknown, the sixth, i.e., the third in the second row, in the breastplate of the high priest, with the name of Naphtali engraved on it (Exodus 28:18; 39:11)
(2.) A precious stone (Hebrew. shamir', a sharp point) mentioned in Jeremiah. 17:1. From its hardness it was used for cutting and perforating other minerals. It is rendered "adamant" in Ezekiel 3:9, Zechariah. 7:12. It is the hardest and most valuable of precious stones.
